J. D. Salinger 1919 – 2010

One of the more disagreeable parts of aging is watching your heros die off one by one. Like so many, I was captured by Catcher in the Rye, J. D. Salinger’s powerful novel. Nine Stories, his collection of short fiction, still sits on my bookshelf (I bought my copy in a small Parisian bookstore over fifteen years ago to replace my long lost copy from college). Those marvelous stories still are as vivid in my memory as they were almost forty years ago.

One thing’s for sure; Salinger was never a goddam  phony…
