Painted Faces

Women (and men, too) have been painting their faces for at least 5,500 years. Today virtually every women in the country wears make up some of or all of the time. Certainly any female face seen on television, in the movies or fashion magazines is enhanced with rouge, powder, lipstick, eye liner and shadow and other cosmetics (not to mention cosmetic surgery).

The made up face is often strongly sexual. Thick eye liner and colored eye shadow, together with a vibrant red lipstick enhance a woman’s desirability by making her appear younger and more sexual. The allure of the painted female face is older than civilization itself.
